Retail store layout optimization for maximum product visibility

It is well-established that increased product visibility to shoppers leads higher sales for retailers. In this study, we propose an optimization methodology which assigns categories and subcategories store locations sublocations maximize the overall of products shoppers. The hierarchically developed meet strategic tactical layout planning needs brick-and-mortar Layouts in both levels are optimized considering eligibility requirements complete set shopper paths, thus, they successfully capture unique shopping behavior consumers a store's region. resulting mathematical problem recognized as special instance well-known Quadratic Assignment Problem, considered computationally one hardest problems. We adopt linearization technique demonstrate via real-world numerical example our linearized models substantially improve layout, hence, can be used practical applications vital decision support model planning.
